Tsai Eng-meng Biography
Tsai Eng-meng, who as recently as 2017 was the richest man in Taiwan was born in Datong District, Taipei. His father Tsai A-Shi had his own canned fish business which he had built since founding it in 1962.
He took a n active role in his father’s business when he was just 19, and came up with a new product line – rice flour crackers. In 1987 he took over as chairman from his father in the business – Want Want China (which translates as prosperity and fortune and is actually pronounced wang wang) which had become one of the biggest producers of Chinese style drinks and snacks in the world.
In addition to Want Want, Tsai Eng-meng has business interests in media such as the China Television Co. and the China Times newspaper, financial services and several hotels.
