Kwong Siu-hing Biography
Born in Huadu in Guangdong, China Kwong Siu-hing is the widow of Kwok Tak-seng, the co-founder of Sun Hung Kai Properties. She left her home province, and mainland China in 1947, moving to Hong Kong. It was there she married Kwok Tak-seng at the age of 20. When her husband died in 1990, Kwong took over as matriarch of the family, though her time has been marred by several high-profile family rivalries.
Under Kwok Tak-seng, Sun Hung Kai had become one of if not the largest property developer in Hong Kong. It was floated on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 1972. Walter, Kwong and Kwok’s eldest son became chairman after his father’s death, but after becoming embroiled in a feud with his two brothers Raymond and Thomas he was ousted in 2008. Kwong became chairman until 2011, when Thomas took over the reins. He was found guilty of bribery and imprisoned for 5 years in 2014 leaving Raymond to step up as chairman. Thomas was released in 2019, a year after Walter died.
Kwong Siu-hing remains as the largest shareholder of the company.
